Illegal T-shirts?

Home / Notes / Illegal T-shirts?

Last time I checked, the first amendment still read “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” So how come this guy got arrested at the mall for wearing a ‘give peace a chance’ t-shirt? And this student got sent home for wearing an anti-Bush t-shirt?

Maybe you think that that kid’s t-shirt was out of line. I think I agree with Teddy: “To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” – Theodore Roosevelt (1918)”

In other news, “American military officials acknowledged yesterday that two prisoners captured in Afghanistan in December had been killed while under interrogation at Bagram air base north of Kabul”. “A spokesman for the air base confirmed that the official cause of death of the two men was ‘homicide’.”
